HAMPTON TRACK HAS STRONG SHOWING AT PENN STATE

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. –
The Hampton University men's and women's track & field teams had a strong showing on Saturday at the Penn State Relays, combining to win five event titles at the Ashenfelter Multi-Sport Facility.

The Lady Pirates took home three event titles, while the Pirates won two events.

Senior Racquel Vassell (Irvington, N.J.) added her fourth event title of the season, winning the 200-meter dash with a 24.02. Senior Kristal McGreggor (Bronx, N.Y.) won the 20-lb. weight throw with a distance of 16.55 meters, while freshman Alaine Tate (Queens, N.Y.) won her first collegiate event, taking the mile run with a time of 5:23.10.

On the men's side, senior Aaron Anderson (Fort Washington, Md.) won his first event of the season with a 6.82 in the 60-meter dash, while senior Damon Dixon (Great Falls, Va.) ran an 8.12 in the 60-meter hurdles to win that event.

Vassell also finished third in both the 60-meter dash (7.61) and the 60-meter hurdles (8.48), while freshman Devyn Thompson (Chicago, Ill.) ran a 10:58.82 to come in second in the 3,000-meter run and a 5:24.24 to finish second in the mile run.

The Lady Pirates' 4x800-meter relay team ran a 9:17.58 to come in second, while the 'A' squad finished third in the 4x400-meter relay with a 3:49.04.

Breana Norman came in fourth in the 60-meter dash with a 7.78, while senior Leah Richmond (Long Beach, Calif.) ran a 1:15.16 to finish fourth in the 500-meter dash.

Anderson ran a 21.63 to finish third in the 200-meter dash, while the Pirates' 4x800-meter relay team ran a 7:49.69 to finish second. Quintin Fulgham jumped 6.79 meters to finish second in the long jump, while Dixon came in third in the high jump with a mark of 2.04 meters.

Freshman Je'Von Hutchison (Boynton, Fla.) ran a 1:04.32 to come in fourth in the 500-meter dash.

The Pirates and Lady Pirates will return to action on Friday, when they head to New York, N.Y. to compete in the Gotham Cup.
