CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Hampton University sailing team matched its best finish of the season on Saturday and Sunday, coming in third overall in the Virginia Invitational amid windy conditions on Lake Anna.
Hampton finished with 64points, behind champion William & Mary and second-place Maryland in the overall team standings. The Pirates won the A Division with 18 points, thanks to the efforts of freshmen
Giuditta Di Laghi (Albenga, Italy) and
Albert Toledo (Istanbul, Turkey).
The Pirates came in fifth in the B Division with 46 points.
Unlike the previous weekend, which was marked by a decided lack of wind, the Pirates experienced sunny and breezy conditions this weekend.
The Pirates will return to action on Saturday and Sunday, when they head to Newport News, Va. to compete in The Webb Invitational hosted by Christopher Newport University.
