NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Hampton University sailing team closed out the fall portion of its schedule with a second-place finish in The Brennan Russell, hosted by Christopher Newport University, on Saturday and Sunday.
It marked the Pirates' best finish of the 2011-12 season so far.
The Pirates finished with 49 points, 18 points behind regatta champion CNU. William & Mary came in third with 47 points.
Sophomore Kiamannee Simon (St. Georges, Grenada) sailed in the B Division, tallying 14 points to give the Pirates the win in that division, while sophomore
Joshua Gopeesingh (San Juan, Puerto Rico) sailed to a fourth-place effort in the A Division.
The Brennan Russell is named in honor of former CNU student-athlete Brennan Russell, who was killed last year in a car accident.
The spring 2012 portion of the schedule will be announced soon.
