SEEDINGS ANNOUNCED FOR MEAC TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS

NORFOLK, Va. –
The Hampton University men's and women's tennis teams each earned No. 3 seeds in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC Northern Division) for the 2011 MEAC Tennis Championships, the conference announced on Tuesday.

The 2011 MEAC Tennis Championships will be held Friday through Sunday at the Millbrook Tennis Center in Raleigh, N.C. Friday's action will start at 8:30 a.m.

The Pirates will open play Friday against Florida A&M, the Southern Division No. 2 seed, at 12 p.m., while the Lady Pirates will also face Florida A&M on Friday at 8:30 a.m.

The Pirates earned the Northern Division's No. 3 seed after going 3-9 overall and 2-2 in conference play this season, closing out the regular season this past Saturday with a 5-2 win over Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, Md.

The Pirates also picked up a conference win over Coppin State, 6-0, on March 18 in Baltimore, Md., before losing matches against Howard (1-6 on April 2) and Morgan State (2-5 on April 3).

Howard, at 4-0 in MEAC play, earned the Northern Division's top seed on the men's side, with Morgan State claiming the No. 2 seed with a 3-1 conference mark.

Defending MEAC champion South Carolina State earned the Southern Division's top seed.

The Lady Pirates earned the Northern Division's No. 3 seed by going 3-2 in conference play to go along with a 4-9 overall record. Hampton ended the regular season this past Saturday with a 7-0 win over Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, Md. and has won two straight matches and three of its last five.

The Lady Pirates also defeated Coppin State 6-0 on March 18 in Baltimore, Md. before falling to Delaware State (2-4 on March 27) and Howard (0-7 on April 2). Hampton beat Morgan State 6-1 on April 3 in its final home match of the season.

Howard went 5-0 in the Northern Division to earn the top seed on the women's side, while Delaware State claimed the No. 2 seed by going 4-1 in the MEAC.

Defending champion South Carolina State earned the Southern Division's top seed.
