SAILING RELEASES SPRING 2012 SCHEDULE

Complete 2011-12 Hampton University Sailing Schedule

HAMPTON, Va. –
The Hampton University sailing team, in its third season under head coach Alessandro Ambrosi, released its spring 2012 schedule on Wednesday.

The Pirates will open the spring portion of their schedule in Newport News, Va. on Feb. 25-26, competing in the Christopher Newport 2-on-2 clinic, before heading to Norfolk, Va. on March 3-4 for the ODU Spring Open. Hampton will then return to Newport News, Va. on March 10-11 to compete in the CNU Ice-Free Open.

Hampton will then split between two meets on March 17-18; part of the team will be in Annapolis, Md. for the Truxton Umsted Regatta hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy, while the rest of the team will return to Newport News, Va. for the CNU 2-on-2 Invitational – which Hampton has won each of the last two seasons.

The Pirates will then host the MAISA/SAISA Intersectional on March 24-25 at Strawberry Banks, marking the fourth straight year in which Hampton has hosted the regatta.

Hampton will then compete in the South Spring Qualifier on March 31 and April 1 at William & Mary; the top three teams from that regatta will qualify for the America Trophy, which will be held April 14-15 in Geneva, N.Y. – hosted by Hobart and William Smith.

The Pirates qualified for the America Trophy last season with a third-place finish in the South Spring Qualifier.

Hampton will also be in Williamsburg, Va. on April 7-8 for the William & Mary 2-on-2 Team Race, a race the Pirates won last season.

If the Pirates do not qualify for the America Trophy, they will close out the season on April 14-15 in Newport News, Va. by competing in the Leroy Grant Regatta hosted by CNU.

Hampton has won seven regattas during Ambrosi's tenure, and the Pirates' best finish so far this season is a second-place effort in the The Brennan Russell at CNU back on Nov. 19-20. Hampton has also logged four third-place finishes so far this season.
