NORFOLK, Va. – The Hampton University sailing team participated in its first competitive meet of the spring 2012 season on Saturday and Sunday, finishing ninth in the Old Dominion Spring Open.
The Pirates finished ninth in the team standings with 197 points in what head coach
Alessandro Ambrosi called a “tremendous start” to the spring campaign. Hampton tallied 95 points in the A Division, while recording 102 points in the B Division.
The U.S. Naval Academy won the regatta with 44 points.
Saturday saw intermittent showers and an unsteady breeze, while Sunday featured a chilly breeze throughout.
The Pirates will return to action on Saturday and Sunday, when they head to Newport News, Va. to compete in the Christopher Newport Ice-Free Open.
