DES MOINES, Iowa – The Hampton University men's and women's track & field teams wrapped up the 2011-12 season at the 2012 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships Wednesday through Saturday on the campus of Drake University.
Senior
Reggie Dixon (Plainfield, N.J.) competed in both the men's 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash. He finished fifth in his preliminary heat in the 200-meter dash with a 20.87, while also running a 10.27 in the preliminaries of the 100-meter dash to come in seventh in his heat.
Dixon was .01 seconds off his season best in the 100-meter dash.
The Pirates finished fifth in their heat in the 4x400-meter relay preliminaries, as freshman
Chidi Okezie (Philadelphia, Pa.), freshman
Brien Berry (Durham, N.C.), sophomore
Je'Von Hutchison (Boynton, Fla.) and freshman
Edose Ibadin (Glendale, Md.) turned in a season-best 3:06.28.
Senior
Benita Taylor (Philadelphia, Pa.) ran a 2:09.23 in the preliminary heats of the 800-meter run, coming in eighth in her heat race.
Taylor also anchored the Lady Pirates' 4x400-meter relay team, joining with freshman
Cassandra Jones (Norfolk, Va.), sophomore
Emmy Fraenk (Hampton, Va.) and senior
Claudia Calder (Kingston, Jamaica) to run a 3:41.44 and finish seventh in their preliminary heat.
Florida won the men's team title with 50 points, while LSU took the women's championship with 76 points.
All-America honors, awarded by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), will be officially announced in the coming week.
