HAMPTON, Va. – Hampton University women's basketball standouts Keiara Avant, Nicole Hamilton, Olivia Allen, and Alyssa Bennett, as well as junior Chidie Okezie, were named HU Athletes of the Week on Monday for their respective performances.

Avant, Hamilton, Allen, and Bennett keyed the Lady Pirates as they won their fourth straight MEAC Tournament title this past week in Norfolk, Va. – including a 59-38 win over Howard in Saturday's championship game.

Avant (Chesapeake, Va.) was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Performer after averaging 14.3 points and 10.0 rebounds per game in the tournament. Her 20th double-double of the season came in the semifinals against Coppin State, where she had 20 points and 12 rebounds.

Hamilton (Hampton, Va.) poured in a career-high 26 points against Coppin State in the semifinals, and she averaged a team-high 14.7 points and 4.7 assists per game in the tournament.

Allen (Kildeer, Ill.) averaged 14.0 points per game in the MEAC Tournament, scoring in double figures in all three games. She had a team-high 16 points in the championship game against Howard, while also pouring in 13 points each against Delaware State and Coppin State.

She went 8-for-16 (.500) from 3-point range in the tournament.

Bennett (Hampton, Va.) averaged 13.0 points and 6.7 rebounds per game in the MEAC Tournament, including 14 points against Howard in Saturday's championship game on 5-for-7 shooting – while also grabbing six rebounds and holding Howard's Saadia Doyle to nine points.

Okezie (Philadelphia, Pa.) was on the Pirates' 4x400-meter relay team that won gold at the Wake Forest Open on Friday and Saturday to open the 2013 outdoor season. He helped the squad run a 3:20.86 to win the race.

He also came in second in the 200-meter dash after running a 21.30.
