2015 MEAC Women's Tennis Bracket
HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton University Men's and Women's tennis teams are gearing up for the 2015 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tennis Championships to be held Wednesday through Saturday at the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center in Cayce, S.C.
The top four seeds in each division make it to the Championship Tournament.
The Pirates who finished at the No.2 seed will open play on Thursday against Florida A&M, the Southern Division's No. 3 seed, at 12 p.m., while the Lady Pirates will face South Carolina State on Thursday at 8:30 a.m.
The Pirates earned the Northern Division's No. 2 seed after going 4-14 overall and 3-1 in conference play this season. Morgan State, 4-10 overall and 4-0 in MEAC play, earned the Northern Division's top seed on the men's side.
Defending MEAC champion South Carolina State earned the Southern Division's top seed.
The Lady Pirates earned the Northern Division's No. 3 seed by going 3-2 in conference play to go along with a 3-13 overall record.
Howard went 5-0 in the Northern Division to earn the top seed on the women's side.
Bethune-Cookman earned the Southern Division's No.1 seed with a 6-0 record in conference and 16-6 overall record.
Only the top four teams in each division compete in the championship tournament. Coppin State, Maryland Eastern Shore, Norfolk State, North Carolina A&T State and Savannah State's women's teams were eliminated from tournament play as a result of their conference finish. Maryland Eastern Shore, Norfolk State and North Carolina A&T State's men's teams were also eliminated.
The 2015 MEAC Men's and Women's Tennis Championship begins with women's play on Thursday, April 16 at 8:30 a.m., while the men begin action at Noon. The women's semifinal rounds start on Friday at 8:30 a.m. followed by the men at Noon. The Championship concludes on Saturday with the women's final beginning at 9 a.m. followed by the men's title match at Noon. The championship is free and open to the public.
