ATLANTA, Ga. – Hampton University junior T. J. O'Neal came in third in the individual standings of the Black College Hall of Fame Invitational this past Friday at the Browns Mill Golf Course.
He shot a 3-under 69.
Not only was that round a career-best for O'Neal, but it was also the best round a Pirate golfer had shot since Curtis Fearrington's even-par 72 in the second round of this same tournament back in 2012.
Arturo Saro is the last Pirate to shoot under par with a 1-under 71 in the 2008 Sea Trail Intercollegiate.
Kenny Gaither shot a 6-over 78 to come in 25th, marking the second time in three rounds so far this season that he has shot in the 70s. Artuhr Davis came in 35th after firing an 11-over 83.
Brandon Reed shot a 14-over 86 to come in 41st, and
Dawson Hobbs was 43rd after shooting a 22-over 94.
The Pirates were seventh in the team standings at 316.
Alabama State won the team title with a 276, while that team's duo of Francis Berthiaume and Edward Hackett tied for the individual lead with matching 67s.
Only Friday's scores were counted, as Saturday's round was called off due to weather.
The Pirates will return to action on Oct. 26-27 in the Virginia State Trojan Fall Classic. For more information on Hampton University golf, please call the Office of Sports Information at (757) 727-5811, or visit the official Pirates website at
