KINGS POINT, NY – The Hampton University sailing team finished fourth out of 19 teams this weekend in the Kings Point Dinghy Open. It's the third straight top five finish for Hampton in the first four regattas of the year.
Georgetown University won the event with 94 points, followed by St. Mary's College (MD) with 176, Navy with 181 and Hampton with 192. George Washington rounded out the top five with 204 points.
The A Division boat of
Maximilian Kuester and Dario Abou Rijeli finished in the top two in eight of the 15 races, with seven first place finishes, to total 72 points. The B Division boat of
Luca Taglialegne,
Filip Stevanovic and
Elisabeth Kuester finished in the top five in five races and totaled 120 points.
Competing in winds rankging from 6-20 mph at times, Saturday saw 12 races go off in each division. Sunday the winds died considerably with only three races going off before the wind stopped completely.
Hampton will now participate in the David Arnoff Trophy Regatta in Geneva, NY next weekend.
