NORFOLK, Va. -- The Hampton University 2016 men's tennis season came to an end on Thursday afternoon, as the Pirates dropped a 4-3 decision to Florida A&M in the opening round of the 2016 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championships at Old Dominion University's Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
Hampton (6-15) got on the board first winning the doubles point. The No. 2 team of
Matthew Foster-Estwick and
Joshua McQueen pulled a 6-2 win over Courage Okungbowa and Illya Skoromnyy, while the No. 3 line of
Miguel Suarez and
Charles Hudson defeated Karlyn Small and Jalen Evans 7-5 to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead heading into singles.
In singles, the Rattlers struck for the win by taking the first four matches. Hampton scored a win at number five singles, as Suarez finished his career with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Evans. At number six,
Joshua McQueen got a win by forfeit for the final margin of 4-3.
