TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Hampton University golfers
Britney Smith and
T.J. O'Neal showed some of their best golf of the season this past Saturday and Sunday at the Florida A&M Spring Invitational, held at the Southwood Golf Course.
The Lady Pirates won the women's team title with a two-round score of 665 (326-339).
Smith went 79-77 (156), finishing 12-over in finishing one shot shy of the women's individual title. She now has six rounds in the 70s on the season, and her second-round 77 was the team's best over the weekend.
Zora Moore was fourth with a 21-over 165 (80-85), while
Treliah Samuels (85-89) and
JiHyun Park (82-92) each tied for fifth with a 30-over 174.
Milan James was seventh after shooting a 39-over 183 (95-88).
O'Neal won his first individual crown of the season on the men's side, going 73-74 to finish with a 3-over 147. His first-round 73 was the team's best round of the weekend, and O'Neal has shot in the 70s in nine of his last 10 rounds.
Kenny Gaither shot a 21-over 165 (79-86) to finish in a tie for 13th.
Brandon Reed was 18th with a 27-over 171 (85-86), while
Dawson Hobbs fired a 37-over 181 (94-87) to finish 19th.
Arthur Davis was 20th with a 47-over 191 (96-95).
The Pirates were third in the men's team standings with a 664 (331-333).
