Isobel Finnegan's goal with 52 seconds left in regulation got Hampton on the board but it was not enough as they fell 2-1 to Delaware State on Friday night.
The Hornets struck twice in an eight-minute span of the first half as Braxton Clark bounced a shot off the left post and into the net for a 1-0 lead at the 8:35 mark. Kalyn Fauntleroy took a feed from Kori Johnson at the 16:38 mark and gave the hosts a 2-0 lead.
Hampton got on the board in the final minute as Finnegan blasted a shot from 25 yards out and put it in the upper left corner of the net to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Delaware State outshot Hampton 9-5 in the game, thought Hampton outshot the Hornets in the second half and held a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Hampton returns to the home field on Friday at 4:30 pm when they host the University of Maine-Fort Kent at the HU Soccer Complex.
