GREENSBORO, NC – A strong showing on Saturday at the final day of the 2017 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Track Championships pushed the Hampton Pirates to a fourth place finish in the three-day event.
Host North Carolina A&T State won the meet scoring 178 points to outdistance Bethune-Cookman with 115.50. Norfolk State was third with 97.5 and Hampton came in fourth with 80 points.
Freshman
Jaelen Williams won the 400 hurdles on Saturday in a time of 50.84 for Hampton's lone first-place finish.
Most events had multiple finishers in the top eight for Hampton which helped to push them into the top four.
Stanley Davis finished eighth in the 400 hurdles at 56.83 to join Williams in the top eight.
In the 800 meters, Davis took third in 1:51.57, while
Tayvon Burris added an eighth place showing in 2:16.86. The 100 hurdles saw
Charles Graham take third in 14.05 and Williams add a sixth place showing in 14.41.
Hampton had a 2-5 finish in the 1500 meters as freshman
Geoffrey McCullough took second in 4:01.33 while Burris was fifth in 4:03.14.
Jerrick Powell took eighth in the javelin with a toss of 150-11, while
Justin Beatty finished seventh in the 400 in 48.31. The 4x400 relay group of Beatty, Williams,
Gabriel Johnson and
Rayon Black ended the meet with a third place finish in 3:11.24.
Hampton will next compete in the ECAC/IC4A championships next weekend in Princeton, NJ.
