LOCATION: Robins Center – Richmond, Va.
RECORDS: Hampton 2-4; Richmond 2-4
IN BRIEF: Junior Jermaine Marrow scored a career-high 38 points and senior Kalin Fisher added a season high 27 as Hampton knocked off Richmond 86-66 in the Robins Center on Sunday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Hampton started quickly jumping out to a 14-4 lead at the first media timeout on a 3-point play by Fisher at the 15:56 mark.
  • That lead grew to 28-12 on a 3-ball by Marrow at the 9:42 mark.  That 3-ball started a run of 12 straight points by Marrow topped by a layup in the paint for a 37-29 lead with 3:34 left.
  • A jumper by Noah Yates with 47 seconds left brought the Spiders to 41-37, but a pair of Fisher free throws with 25 seconds left put Hampton up 43-37 at the half.
  • In the second half, a layup by Andre Gustavson kept the margin at six with a 45-39 Hampton lead at the 18:52 mark.  A layup by Lysander Bracy pushed the margin to 58-43 and capped a 13-4 run for the Pirates over a 3:41 span.
  • Ricquall Smoot's layup off a Marrow feed at 9:40 gave Hampton its first 20-point advantage leading 70-49 with 9:40 left.  Fisher drained a 3-ball with just over three minutes left as Hampton took its largest lead at 84-57.
BEHIND THE BOXSCORE
  • Marrow's 38 was one off the most points by an opponent in the Robins Center as Chris Sedmak had 39 for American on Jan. 30, 1993.
  • His previous career high was 35 against Bethune-Cookman on Jan. 29, 2018
  • Fisher hit a career high five triples as he added a season-best 27 points.  His previous best was four at Howard on Feb. 8, 2018.   He was balanced on the night dropping 14 points in the first half and 13 in the second.
  • Hampton was 29-of-56 from the floor (51.8%) and 10-of-23 from 3-point land (43.6%) while 18-of-20 from the foul line (90%).
  • The win was the first in seven meetings with the Spiders and the first win by Hampton in the Robins Center.
