HU DROPS FRIDAY FINALE TO TERRIERS

Final Score: St. Francis Brooklyn 3, Hampton 1 (20-25, 25-14, 25-20, 27-25)

Records: Hampton – 0-2, St. Francis Brooklyn – 1-1
 
The Short Story: Hampton and St. Francis Brooklyn battled through four sets Friday afternoon with the Terriers emerging victorious. St. Francis capitalized on 16 HU service errors as the squads were otherwise equally matched statistically. This was the first-ever match between the two schools.
 
BEHIND THE NUMBERS
  • Megann Delgado led Hampton with 13 kills while Gabby Calloway put away 10 kills on a team-leading .258 hitting percentage. The kill totals set new career bests for Delgado and Calloway.
  • Delgado was an integral part of HU's success on Friday, contributing a team-leading four service aces to go with six digs.
  • Nina Tiedt had a match-high 37 assists for St. Francis Brooklyn while Kizzy Rodriguez paced all players with 23 digs.
  • Brooke Irvin, making her collegiate debut, had 17 assists for the Lady Pirates.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • St. Francis Brooklyn cut the lead to 20-17 in the first set before HU capitalized for a 4-0 run to put the game away. Delgado and Kyndall Nicholas had a kill each, while Calloway added a block.
  • The Terriers used two 4-0 runs in the third set to garner a 2-1 set lead for St. Francis Brooklyn.
  • Serving for match point, Calloway put down a kill off an Irvin assist to tie it at 24. A Sasha Saric ace set up set point for the Lady Pirates. The Terriers rallied, scoring the next three points to capture the victory.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
The Lady Pirates finish play at the Eagle Challenge on Saturday against the host-school, Morehead State University, at 2 p.m.
