IN BRIEF: Visiting Charleston Southern took advantage of five turnovers en route to a 48-14 win over Hampton University on Saturday.
BEHIND THE NUMBERS
- Shai McKenzie ran for a season high 129 yards on a career-best 21 carries. His career high was last year against Florida A&M with 147 yards on 19 carries.
- Bruce Dixon was the starting quarterback and went 8-for-17 with one interception for 36 yards
- Kapri Doucet had seven tackles, two sacks, three tackles for loss, two quarterback hurries and a forced fumble.
- Dereon Carr also shared leading tackler honors with seven.
- Charleston Southern outgaines Hampton 297-225 and held a four second time of possession advantage 30:02 to 29:58.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Charleston Southern scored on the opening possession as Terrence Wilson covered the last 68 yards to cap an 84-yard, five-play drive for a 7-0 lead with 12:16 left.
- James Allen picked off a Dixon pass and returned 16 yards for a 14-0 Charleston Southern lead with 7:04 left in the first quarter.
- Hampton got on the board just into the second quarter as the defense forced a turnover on the Charleston Southern six-yardline. Desmond Sturdivant forced a Wilson fumble that was recovered by Norman Oglesby. The next play Dixon connected with Jadakis Bonds on a fade route to trim the margin to 14-7 at 14:47 left in the half.
- The wind was taken out of the Pirates sails on the ensuing kickoff as James Allen took the kick 80 yards for a touchdown and a 21-7 lead just 12 seconds later.
- London Johnson found Saire Davis on a 13-yard scoring pass with 11:23 left to push the lead to 28-7.
- Hampton's defense picked off Johnson as Caleb Brown snared a pass and returned it 28 yards to give Hampton a shot a 28-14 with nine minutes left.
- The guests closed the opening half on a 63 yard, eight-play drive as Johnson found Ronnie Harris in the back corner of the end zone on a 12-yard pass to take a 35-14 lead into half.
- In the second half, the guests got a touchdown on a two-yard run by Adam Allen with 7:38 left in the third and a Jamari Dunbar 27-yard touchdown jaunt in the fourth made it 48-14 with 10:03 left.
