EARLY RUN DOOMS PIRATES IN LOSS TO BLUE HOSE

CLINTON, S.C. -- A 10-0 run early in the first half proved to be the difference on Wednesday night as Hampton dropped its first Big South contest falling 85-70 at Presbyterian College.

An Akim Mitchell 3-pointer tied the game at 3-all at the 18:38 mark and a layup by Jermaine Marrow put Hampton ahead 5-3 just 31 seconds later.  The Blue Hose then ripped off the next 10 points as a Chris Martin layup at the 16 minute mark put the hosts up 13-5 forcing a Hampton timeout.  Hampton trimmed the lead down to one on a Kalin Fisher layup with 9:26 left in the opening half to trail 21-20.

In the second half, Marrow opened with a triple to get Hampton to 44-40 at the 19:19 mark, but that was as close as the Pirates could get in the final 20 minutes.

Davon Bell topped Presbyterian with 22 points, while Chris Flagler added 21 and each also added eight rebounds.

Marrow and Fisher were the leading scorer for Hampton with 15 points, Lysander Bracey came off the bench with 13 and Trevond Barnes added 12 for Hampton.

The Pirates now go to Boiling Springs, N.C. to face Gardner-Webb on Saturday.
