NORFOLK, Va. – The Hampton University men's tennis team opened Big South Conference action on Sunday morning dropping a 7-0 decision to Winthrop in a match held at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center at Old Dominion University.
In doubles, with Hampton forfeiting at line three, the tandem of Connor Williamson and Diego Quiroz got the team point for Winthrop with a 6-2 win at line one over
Fernando Fernandes and
Charles Hudson. Line two match did not finish as Davy van Geerke and
Luke Thompson were down 5-4 when the team point was clinched.
In singles, van Geerke took Quiroz to a third set at line one but fell 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. Hudson pushed a second set at line four falling 6-2, 7-5 to Aditya Gokhale.
Hampton (0-2, 0-1) now visits James Madison for a 2pm match on Tuesday in Harrisonburg.
