ELON, N.C. – Hampton University softball team concluded its action in the Elon February Tournament on Saturday dropping a 9-7 decision to the host Phoenix.

After giving up three runs in the first and second innings, Hampton got on the scoreboard with four runs in the fifth inning.  Behind a two-run triple by DaSha Hill and a two-run blast by Taylor Warrick.

In the sixth, Hampton got another run as Janae Lyles opened the inning with a solo blast to get Hampton to 6-5.  Elon took a 9-5 lead after another three-spot in the sixth, but Hampton got a pair of runs in the top of the seventh.  With one out, Hill singled and stole second before scoring on an error.  Warrick walked, went to second on the error and to third on a Janae Lyles single before scoring on a Joya Greer fielders choice.

Hill and Lyles were 2-for-4 as Hill scored twice and Lyles had a solo homr run, while Warrick was 1-3 with a two-run home run.  Allyson Babinsack took the loss after giving up six runs in the first two innings.

Hampton starts a month-long homestand with the Pirate-Spartan Classic #1 this coming weekend with Cebntral Connecticut State, Morehead State, St. Bonaventure and Mount St. Mary's.  Hampton will face Morehead State on Friday at 2:30 pm.
