HAMPTON, Va.—Hampton University was recognized with two awards on Monday night at the 70th annual Peninsula Sports Club Headliners Night banquet.
Head Women's Basketball Coach
David Six was recognized with the Thad Madden award after his recovery from a stroke in June of 2018 to lead the Lady Pirates to a third-place finish in their inaugural season of Big South Conference competition. During the season he earned his 200
th career win with a 72-65 victory over James Madison in late November.
Track and field standout
Jerrick Powell was honored as the Hampton University Athlete of the Year after his stellar performance in the 2019 Big South Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships. Powell was named Indoor Field Performer of the Meet to help lead the Pirates not only to a win in the indoor meet, but followed that with an outdoor championship title.
