Hampton University will be well represented at the 2019 IAAF World Athletics Championships starting today in Doha, Qatar as four Hamptonians will be involved in the nine-day meet.

Maurice Pierce is serving as an assistant coach for the United States men's team and he joins three former Hampton track standouts at the championships. Ce'Aira Brown, who finished her Hampton career in 2016, is running the 800 meters for the United States women. She started her competition today running 2:01.14 in her qualifying heat and advanced to the semifinals on Saturday.
A pair of Pirate men are running for their native countries as Edose Ibadin will run in the 800 meters for Nigeria, while Brandon Jones will run in the 200 meters for Belize. Jones, who finished his Hampton career in 2009, will run in his qualifying heat on Sunday, with the semifinals on Monday and finals set for Tuesday. Ibadin, who finished his Hampton career in 2015, will run in his qualifying heat on Saturday with the semis on Sunday and finals set for Tuesday.
