ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Hampton women's tennis team opened Big South Conference action on Friday afternoon facing the defending conference champion Winthrop Eagles and lost 7-0.

Winthrop won the doubles point with a 6-1 win at line one behind Alexandra Ferreira da Silva and Tayla Van Eck over Milena Amedieva and Laura Peralta.  In singles, Peralta dropped a 6-2, 6-2 match to Van Eck at line three, while Amedieva lost at line one to Alisa Soloveva 6-0, 6-3.

Hampton now heads to Boiling Springs, N.C. to face Gardner-Webb on Saturday.
