Hampton University sophomore Valerio Palamara received an at-large bid to the Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) Singlehanded National Championships to be held Nov. 5-6 at the Severn Yacht Club in Annapolis, Md.
 
Palamara is the first Hampton University sailor to earn a bid to this event in program history.   His performance in the Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association (MAISA) Laser Qualifier and MAISA Conference Championships helped him to get an at-large bid.  He was third in the Laser Qualifier and seventh in the conference meet.
 
"It's quite an honor for Valerio and our program to get an at-large bid to the championships," said Hampton University head coach Alessandro Ambrosi.  "We have been to the Co-Ed National Championships and one of our goals this year was to get a spot in the Singlehanded Nationals.  I am very happy for Valerio and our program."
 
Including automatic qualifiers, a total of 18 participants will sail in the championships.
