Three Hampton University student-athletes were honored as 2021 Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholar Award winners by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education magazine.
Gabrielle Calloway (Volleyball),
Isobel Finnegan (Sailing) and
Lonnie Jones (Lacrosse) are among 40 honorees by the magazine as Sports Winners and will be recognized in the April 29 issue.
Calloway was tops on the team in kills, aces and second in digs during the 2019 season. She recorded a career high 22 kills at Charleston Southern and is a Health Science major.

Finnegan was on the sailing team in the spring of 2019 and spring of 2020 along with being a three-year starter with the women's soccer team. She's a two-time Big South All-Academic selection and is a kinesiology major.

Jones played in six games while starting four in 2020 for the lacrosse team. He tallied three goals and four assists, with season highs of two goals against NJIT and two assists in the season finale at Greensboro College. Jones is a criminal justice major.
In addition to their athletic ability, students named 2021 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.5, be at least a sophomore academically, and be active on their campuses or in their community.
