HAMPTON, VA - The Hampton men's lacrosse team played its first home game of the 2022 season on Monday and dropped a 15-6 decision to VMI at Armstrong Stadium.

Senior goalkeeper
Paxtin Powell set a school and Southern Conference record with 27 saves. He broke the previous record of 23 which he tied against Mt. St. Mary's in the season opener.

Miles Fawcett headed the Hampton attack with two goals scored (2g, 1a).

Dylan Robinson, and
Lonnie Jones each scored a goal for the Pirates.

Hampton opened by scoring the first two goals on the contest, taking a 2-0 lead. VMI responded and tied the game by the end of the first period a two apiece. Hampton would score again in the second period, but not before VMI went on a 3-0 run to give them a 5-3 lead at halftime.

The Pirates tallied two more goals in the third, but the Keydets would open a 9-5 lead by the end of the period. The Keydets would add six goals in the fourth quarter, pulling away and winning the game.

Hampton is back in action Saturday, February 26 on the road to take on Bellarmine University.
