Hampton University Announces the 2022 Football Schedule

HAMPTON, VA- The Hampton University 2022 football schedule is set, highlighted by a six-game home schedule lineup featuring opponents Howard, Tuskegee, University of Maine, University of Richmond, William and Mary, and Elon.

"Our players, coaches, fans, and alumni will all be excited for this schedule as the reality of competing in the CAA is one step closer to happening," said head coach Robert Prunty.

This season marks Hampton's inaugural year in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA), effective July 1.

The Pirates will kick off the 2022 football season at Home in Armstrong Stadium on September 3 at 6 pm against long-time rivals Howard University (MEAC). HU's overall record versus the Howard University Bison dating back to 1988 is 18-4 Hampton. However, in their last meeting coined the Battle of the Real HU, Hampton came out on top 42-38.

"Hampton is excited to play an exciting non-conference schedule and begin this new chapter with the CAA," said President William R. Harvey. "The geographical footprint of the conference sets us up for some great home matchups and road games to foster the support of our alumni fan base across the northeast regions."

September 10 Hampton will face the Golden Tigers of Tuskegee (SIAC) at Home; the game is slated for a 6 pm kick-off. Hampton and Tuskegee have met thirty times, ranging from 1907 to the most recent meeting back in 2003. The Pirates claimed the last win with a 53-0 shutout, but Tuskegee leads the series 16-13.

Next up is another highly anticipated rivalry game for the ages as HU faces Norfolk State (MEAC) in the Battle of the Bay. The Pirates will travel to Norfolk to take on the Spartans at Dick Price Stadium. HU and NSU have faced each other 53 times on the gridiron; this year's winner will take the victory and claim the series lead. The series is tied at 26-26. Last season the Pirates suffered a 47-44 loss in overtime.

"We are very excited about the non-conference schedule," said sophomore Brandon Hardy (Vanceboro, NC). This will make us better and help us prepare for the competition that's coming up in the following weeks after that."
