KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Oct. 29th, 2023) … Hampton University sailing competed this weekend in New York at the War Memorial. The Pirates finished 14th out of the 18-man field. HU would finish above Syracuse, Rochester, Christopher Newport, and Princeton. The first day of competition saw some high winds early on due to a cold front moving in. Coach Alessandro Ambrosi's squad finished the regatta with a total of 303 points finishing 15 points behind Drexel. The Pirates A unit had 182 points this weekend. HU's A squad's highest finish came in the fifth race where they finished 12th.'

Hampton University's B division had a better showing with 121 points but could not climb up the leaderboard. They would have an early fourth-place finish in the first race. Throughout the remainder of the regatta, the Pirates secured six more top-ten finishes. Hampton came close to another top-five finish placing sixth during the eighth race.

The Pirates Sailing team will be back in action on November 11th in the College Sailing Nationals. Hampton's Valerio Palamara qualified for nationals back in September at the MAISA National Championship Qualifier.
