Hampton’s Francena McCorory to be Inducted into Virginia Sports Hall of Fame

    Hampton's Francena McCorory will be inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame on April 21 and 22 in Virginia Beach, Va.  The track & field standout was the bronze medalist in the 400-meters and a member of the gold medal-winning 2012 and 2016 United States Olympic team 4x400 meter relay team. In 2014, McCorory was the IAAF 400-meter Indoor World Champion. McCorory was a standout performer at Hampton's Bethel High School where she set the national high school record in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.93 seconds. 

    Enrolling at Hampton University, she was the individual champion at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in the 400-meter dash and finished third in the NCAA Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships in 2009. In 2010, she set the NCAA record with a time of 50.54 seconds in the indoor championships. She later won the outdoor championship with a time of 50.52 seconds.
Due to a previous commitment, McCorory will not be able to attend the induction ceremony.
