AUSTIN, TEXAS … Hampton sophomore Dugion Blackman earned second-team All-America honors at the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Mike A. Meyers Stadium in Austin, Texas. The Kingston, Jamaica, native placed 11th in the 800m on June 7 to earn second-team All-America recognition for the first time.
The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) champion in the event was in contention to qualify for the finals, finishing fourth in his heat but missed the cut by six-tenths of a second. His clocking of 1:48.65 was his second-best time of the season. It marked the best finish for a CAA runner at the NCAA event since 1997.
The sophomore earned an automatic invitation to this year's NCAA Championships by finishing second in his heat with a mark of 1:51.61 at the regional competition. Blackman missed the National Champions last season by one place last season.
