Towson’s Outside Shooting Topples Lady Pirates

TOWSON, Md. (January 19, 2024) … On a cold night in Maryland, Towson (10-6, 2-3) was hot, making eight three-pointers in the first half to build an insurmountable lead. The Tigers clicked on another eight treys in the second half and went on to post an 83-53 win over Hampton (0-14, 0-5) before 224 fans at the TU Center. The victory snapped a three-game Towson losing streak.

Towson canned its first five, three-point attempts to build a 15-0 advantage in the opening minutes the game. Towson's Patricia Anumgba hit three treys and teammate Kylie Kornagay-Lucas made two. A basket by Amyah Reaves put the Lady Pirates on the scoreboard and Hampton cut into the Tigers lead but still trailed, 20-10, at the end of the first quarter.

After slicing the deficit to six in the second quarter, Towson again scored from long distance with two treys by Alexia Nelson and one by India Johnson to lead 36-21 at intermission. Towson outrebounded the Lady Pirates, 27-18, in the first half.

Four, three-pointers and a two-point basket by Towson's Anumgba made it 50-26 in the opening minutes of the third quarter. A trey by Anasia Staton continued Towson's outside marksmanship. Reaves scored six of Hampton's 11 points in the quarter but the Tigers outscored Hampton, 21-10, as the lead grew to 57-32.

Hampton was unable to close the gap in the final quarter although Reaves scored six points with two treys and Dublin chipped in six of her 11 points in the quarter.

Towson dominated the boards, outrebounding the Lady Pirates, 57-39, including 19 offensive rebounds. The Tigers burned the nets with 16-for-36 from three-point range while Hampton was 3-of-22 from beyond the arc.

Reaves tied her career high with 16 points, including 12 in the second half, to lead the Lady Pirates.

Hampton begins a three-game homestand beginning with UNCW on Sunday, Jan. 21 at 2:00 p.m.
