Delaware Slides Past Hampton, 76-61

Newark, Del. (Jan. 7, 2024) … Hampton (0-12, 0-2) battled Delaware (6-8, 2-0) on even terms for nearly three quarters but a devastating Blue Hen's full court press forced 25 Hampton turnovers for the game including 15 in the second half resulting in 28 points as Delaware posted a 76-61 win.<br />  <br /> Camryn Hill, who matched her career-high with 26 points two days ago at Drexel, led all scorers with 25 points against the Blue Hens. Janae Dublin tallied a career-best 13 points Cheyenne Talbot reached double-figures with 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Lady Pirates.<br />  <br /> Behind the play of Hill, who scored six points in the opening quarter, The Lady Pirates rallied and trailed by two, 19-17, at the end of one quarter. The Lady Pirates converted 9-of-10 from the free throw line. Seven Hampton players scored in the opening 10 minutes of play.<br />  <br /> The Blue Hens opened a 26-19 lead with a 7-2 run to open the second quarter. The lead grew to 32-23 as the Blue Hens tallied 15 fast break points. But Hill (seven second quarter points), and teammate Dublin (four points) combined for 11 of Hampton's 14 second-quarter points to close the gap. The Lady Pirates trailed 34-31 at intermission.<br />  <br /> Hampton scored the first 10 points of the third quarter to take a 41-34 lead. But Delaware's swarming press forced eight Hampton turnovers in the third period converting them into 12 points to build a 55-46 lead.<br />  <br /> The lead quickly grew to 15 early in the fourth quarter. In all, the Blue Hens scored 28 points off Hampton turnovers and scored 25 fast break points. Hampton was outscored 42-30 in the second half and 21-15 in the final period.<br />  <br /> Hampton returns to action on Sunday, Jan. 14 when the Lady Pirates entertain North Carolina A&T in CAA action. It will mark Hampton's third home game of the season. Ten of Hampton's first 12 games of the season were away from the Convocation Center.<br />
