Women's Cross Country

Cross Country Prepares for CAA Championships

HAMPTON, Va. (Oct. 31, 2024) … The Hampton men's and women's cross-country teams finish the season at the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Cross Country Championships on Nov. 1 in Elon, N.C. The men's eight-kilometer race begins at 10:00 a.m. followed by the women's six-kilometer race at 11:00 a.m. at the Elon Cross Country Course. The award ceremony is slated for 12:00 p.m.
 
The Pirates men's team is led by a trio of freshmen. The Pirates finished third in their final race before the CAA Championships at Longwood's Lancer Pink Invitational in Farmville, Va. Mohammed Al-Yee placed fifth in the eight-kilometer race with a clocking of 27.01. Fellow freshmen Nellie Armbriton finished 12th with a time of 28:07.1 and Khalid Hamid was 16th finishing in 29:17.6.

The Hampton women's squad is led by freshman Peninah Mutisya has had an excellent year. She had an impressive first-place finish among a field of 203 runners at the Pirate Cross Country Invitational in Greenville, N.C.

Stony Brook, which is ranked No. 13 in the Northeast Region, is the two-time defending men's champion. Northeastern has finished in the top two at the CAA Championship every year since 2013 and captured the conference title in 2020. William & Mary won 20 conference titles from 2000-2019 and most recently finished first in 2021. The Tribe is ranked 15th in the Southeast Region. Monmouth is ranked No. 15 in the Mid-Atlantic Region.

Elon is seeking to capture its sixth consecutive Women's Cross-Country CAA Championship, a feat that hasn't been accomplished since William & Mary won seven in a row from 2003-09. The Phoenix are ranked No. 15 in the Southeast Region. Northeastern, which is ranked No. 6 in the Northeast Region, had three straight second-place finishes from 2020-22. Stony Brook was the runner-up at the 2023 championship and is No. 15 in the Northeast Region. William & Mary, which is ranked No. 11 in the Southeast Region, leads all schools with 23 CAA titles in its history.
