ELON, N.C. (March 22, 2024) –
Damali Williams broke the women's discus throw school record at the Phoenix Invitational on Friday afternoon in Elon, N.C. The 51.12m toss grabbed first place in the event and surpassed Carol Woodside's previous record (46.63m) that had held for 40 years.
Floyd Tucker notched a second-place finish in the pole vault at 4.55m which was .03m higher than
Trey Clark's mark in 2019. Three other Pirates won individual events in the first outdoor meet for Hampton this season.
Winners
Jordan Mozie won the 1500m with a time of 4:37.05. In the men's 200m, freshman
Antoine Spencer crossed the line in 21.03 seconds.
Abria Smith won the shot put with a distance of 14.30m.
Both the men's and women's 4x100m and 4x400m teams won their events.

Abraham Evans, and
Antoine Spencer (41.05) and Jenna Bouyer,
Madison P Greene,
Kailyn Alexander, and
Maya Hanks (47.40) were the teams for Hampton in the 4x100m. In the 4x400m, the women that ran included
Jordan Mozie,
Kayla Spencer,
Madison P Greene and
Maya Hanks (3:48.15) and the men were
Drake Murphy,
Antoine Spencer,
Abraham Evans and
Deondre McIntosh (3:21.53).
"Today was a good track meet at Elon University," said Coach
Maurice Pierce. "We got a lot accomplished. Some event winners and a few personal best performances. Overall, a good first track meet."
Track Events
Murphy grabbed third in the 110m hurdles (14.76) and
Carson Moore took 5th in the women's 100m (15.42). Spencer and
Khari Barnes finished second and fifth in the 100m (10.64, 10.79) and Bouyer fifth in the women's (12.22).
Mekayla Wilson placed second in the 800m (2:20.70).
Field Events
Dieusi Armand earned third place in the women's long jump (5.57m) and freshman
Fanon Miller fourth in the men's hammer throw (44.11m).
Daye Karib-Whyte grabbed fourth in the shot put (14.93m) and teammate Mya Harmon placed fifth in the discus throw (47.02m). Freshman
Ellis Branch notched a third-place finish in the triple jump (13.61m).
Nya Harmon and
Rochele Solmon took second and fifth in the shot put (13.66m, 12.58m).
