Both Pirate Teams Take Down Patriots

FAIRFAX, Va. (April 10, 2024) – Both tennis teams defeated the George Mason Patriots this afternoon up in Fairfax, Va. at the Mason Tennis Courts. The men's team won 4-2 and Lady Pirates were victorious by a score of 4-0.

Men

Hampton won the doubles point and then three singles matches to clinch the match.

In doubles, Donte Armbrister and Emiliano Jorquera took down Monil Lotlikar and Niza Simunyola 7-6 (5) to increase their record to 3-2. Aryan Arora and Daniel Flynn beat Dustin Ha and Momin Khan 7-5. Arora and Flynn are 3-1 together.

Jorquera took down Lotlikar 6-2, 6-4 in the first singles match. Jorquera holds the best singles record on the team at 12-5. Up Next, Flynn (9-6) defeated Jacco Arends in two sets that both ended 6-3. Armbrister claimed the final point for Hampton, in a 6-4, 6-4 win over Simunyola. Armbrister is 9-8 this season in singles play.

Women

The Lady Pirates quickly won their match by winning the doubles point and the first three singles contests.

Meiri Okuwaki and Sofia Sokolova extended their record to 10-3 in doubles play after a win over Dana Edson and Cenan Liu (6-3). Masa Mitic and Diana Starodubtseva beat Mailys Faur and Brooklyn Siegel 6-3 for their third duo win of the season.

In singles, Mio Kozaki took down Emily Wirt 6-4 and 6-2. Kozaki leads the team in singles wins at 10-6. Starodubtseva won her match over Ruju Chauhan in two sets each at 6-4. The clinching point came from Sokolova, who defeated Liu 6-2 and 6-4. Starodubtseva and Sokolova are both 8-8.

Up Next

The men host Virginia State tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. and the Lady Pirates will also battle in Hampton against North Carolina A&T on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
