LYNCHBURG, Va. (Jan. 26, 2025) … The Hampton University men's and women's indoor track and field teams participated this weekend in the Brant Tolsma Invitational hosted by Liberty University.
In a 33-team event, the Pirates seven top five finishes.
Emmani Shaw won the women's high jump in a leap of 1.69m (5-6.5), while the men's 4x400 took top honors with the quartet of
Justin Anderson,
Chadison Cowan,
Ibrahim Abdalla,
Mohammed Al-YaFee running a 3:16.19 to win that race.
Field Events
Danielle James took third in the long jump with a personal best of 5.79m (19-0) and she also had a personal best in the triple jump on the day of 11.04m (36-2.75). In the shot put, Rochele Solmon took second in 14.82m (48-7.5).
For the men,
Daven Gibson was fifth in the high jump with a leap of 2.01m (6-7), while
Ellis Branch was fifth in the triple jump at 14.29m (46-10.75).
Marquis White was sixth in the long jump in 7.08m (23-2.75) and
Daye Karib-Whyte was eighth in the shot put in 14.61m (47-11.25).
Track Events
Arriah Gilmer was ninth in the 400 meters for the women in 57.63 and
Kayla Spencer took fifth in the 800 meters in 2:16.34.
The 4x400 meter relay team of Gilmer,
Carmen PenaSoto,
Kylee King and
Mekayla Wilson was fifth in 3:56.28.
On the men's side, the quartet of
Khari Barnes,
Deondre McIntosh,
Jaden Clark and
Kyle Lewis were ninth in the 4x400 relay in 3:28.67.

Hampton will next run in the Penn State National Open from January 30 to February 1 in State College, Pa.
