HAMPTON, Va. (Feb. 7, 2025) … A total of 11 football players have transferred to Hampton for the second semester. The list includes four players on offense (three wide receivers and a quarterback), five on defense (one defensive lineman, three linebackers, one defensive back), and two specialists (one place kicker and one long snapper).
In addition to three players from Virginia (Woodbridge, Richmond, and Annandale), four hail from Maryland (two from Baltimore, Laurel, and Brooklyn Park), as well as one athlete each from Pennsylvania, Indiana, Ohio, and Oklahoma.
Earlier this week, Hampton announced the signing of 11 high school standouts. In December, Coach
Trent Boykin announced 11 signees. In all, 33 players will be playing their first season in a Hampton uniform this fall.
The Pirates open the 2025 campaign on Friday, Aug. 29 at Jackson State. The first home contest is slated for Sept. 6 against Elizabeth City State.

Marquis Edmond
The linebacker played at Virginia State in 2024 … had 26 solo tackles and 11 assists for a total of 37 total stops … also had 2.0 tackles for loss, one forced fumble, and broke up a pass … also caught a 13-yard pass for a touchdown in a 21-17 victory over Johnson C. Smith on Oct. 5, 2024.
Chris Fitzpatrick
Played both linebacker and defensive tackle at Dodge City Community College … had 12 solo and 13 assisted tackles for a total of 25 total stops with 2.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, forced one fumble and blocked a kick in six games … also had a three-yard game-winning touchdown run for in a 20-17 victory over Tyler on Aug. 29, 2024.
Isaiah Freeman
Completed 83-of-180 passes for 904 yards and eight touchdowns at Lincoln (Pa.) University in 2024 … also rushed for 225 yards and five TDs in 98 carries … had a 70-yard touchdown run against Elizabeth City State on Oct. 24, 2024 … completed 7-of-13 passes for 154 yards and three scores against Bluefield State on Oct. 12, 2024.
Tae'Shaun Johnson
Had a breakout season at Lake Erie College with 52 catches for 648 yards and eight scores in 2024 … had 15 receptions for 119 yards against Thomas More on Nov. 16, 2024 … also had 11 catches for 94 yards and two TDs versus Ashland on Nov. 2, 2024 … a four-time Lake Erie College Athlete of the Week award winner … named second-team All-G-MAC in 2024 … also attended Bowling Green State … second-team All-State at Central Catholic High where he was team captain in 2019.
Korede Sogbesan
Played in six games at CAA foe Monmouth in 2024 … assisted on two tackles and had half a sack at New Hampshire on Nov. 9, 2024 … earned Honors recognition on the 2024 Spring CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll … played defensive end at Atholton High for coach Eric Woodson … first team All-County … named Defensive MVP and Outstanding Male Athlete at Atholton High where he also played basketball and was on the track team.
Maxwell Moss
Played in 12 games at James Madison and had one reception for 11 yards against Ball State on Sept. 28, 2023 … had two catches for 23 yards and a 13-yard touchdown in his debut against Bucknell on Sept. 2, 2023 … named 2022 Washington Post first-team All-Metro while playing at Archbishop Spalding High … set the conference record for receiving yards and touchdowns as a senior.
Harold O'Neal
Named second-team All-PSAC East in 2023 and again in 2024 … had 26 solo and 511 assisted tackles for a total of 77 stops in 2024 … also had six tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks and broke up two passes … had 146 career tackles … played his scholastic football at Harrisburg High under coach Calvin Everett ... gained All-State honors as a senior when he recorded over 120 tackles ... an All-Conference choice as a junior as he led the team in tackles ... a team captain and led the team in tackles at Lackawanna College ... a transfer from East Tennessee State University.
Alexander Labenow
Was a long snapper at Bluefield State in 2024 before transferring to Hampton … a native of Woodbridge, Va., he played at Gar-Field High where he was a three-year long snapper.
Benjamin Blakely
Spent a year at Virginia State before transferring to Hampton … made a 26-yard field goal and converted 2-of-3 extra points on Sept. 1, 2024 against Benedict … also has experience as a long snapper … played football at Varina High in Henrico, Va.
Jalen Walker
Transferred to Hampton after attending Furman where he was redshirted … the Annandale, Va., native played at Lake Braddock (6A) Secondary School under coach Mike Dougherty ... played both wide receiver and defensive back ... caught eight touchdown passes his senior year after recording TD receptions as a junior ... two-time all-region selection ... second-team all-state pick in 2021.
