Tennis Teams Split Orlando Opener With St. Thomas Aquinas

Women win 4-3, while men drop 4-3 decision

ORLANDO, Fla. (March 11, 2025) … After a rainout on Monday, the Hampton tennis teams finally got on the courts in Orlando and split a matchup with St. Thomas Aquinas. Hampton's women won 4-3, while St. Thomas Aquinas took the men's match by the same 4-3 count.
 
In the women's match, Hampton took the doubles point as they won at No. 1 and No. 3 spots. Serena Bryan and Diana Starodubtseva won 6-1 at No. 1, while Masa Mitic and Meiri Okuwaki took a 6-3 win at No. 3.
 
Singles saw the match go back and forth as St. Thomas Aquinas won at No. 3, before Hampton took the top two singles spots. Starodubtseva won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1 and Okuwaki took a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2 to put Hampton up 3-1.
 
St. Thomas Aquinas won at No. 5 to make it 3-2, but Serena Bryan had a three-set comeback win at No. 4 to lock it up for Hampton via a 4-6, 6-0, 6-3 victory.
 
In doubles, Hampton took the team point winning at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Donte Armbrister and Marko Stoilkovski, fresh off being named Coastal Athletic Association Doubles Team of the Week earlier in the afternoon, won 6-3 at No. 3. Yanozie Amadike and Benedict Badza clinched the point with a 6-3 win at No. 2.
 
In singles, St. Thomas Aquinas won the first two matches at No. 5 and No. 6 to take a 2-1 lead. Badza evened the match for Hampton with a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 4 and Kevin Jorquera won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3. The Spartans won at the top two singles spots to take the men's match.
 
Hampton is back in action on Wednesday with three matches, all at Lake Cane Center in Orlando. The women start with Bryant at 1:30 pm, and will face Quinnipiac at 7 p.m. that evening. The men will face N.C. Central also at 7 p.m.
