HAMPTON, Va. (March 6, 2025) … After opening with five matches on the road, the Hampton men's tennis team was finally able to get on the home courts of Nielson-Screen Stadium on Thursday and came away with a pair of wins.
 
The opening match of the day saw Hampton take on Norfolk State in the Battle of the Bay and the Pirates pulled out a 4-3 win over the Spartans.
 
Hampton took the doubles by winning two matches to lock up the point. Aryan Arora and Kevin Jorquera took a 6-3 win at No. 1 and the duo of Donte Armbrister and Marko Stoilkovski won 6-4 at No. 3 to put the Pirates up 1-0.
 
In singles, Norfolk State took the first two points for a 2-1 lead before Armbrister evened the match with a 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5) win at No. 1. Hampton took a 3-2 lead as Benedict Badza won by retirement at No. 4, but the Spartans evened the match following a win at No. 5.
 
Stoilkovski locked up the dual match for Hampton via a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 win at No. 6.
 
Later on Thursday the Pirates took on Chowan as Hampton swept the doubles point with Yanozie Amadike and Benedict Badza locking it up via a 6-3 win at No. 2
 
In singles, the Pirates got singles wins from Armbrister at No. 1 (6-3, 6-3), Jorquera at No. 3 (6-1, 4-6, 6-1) and a clincher from Arora at No. 5 (6-3, 6-2) to take the 4-0 victory.
 
Hampton (2-5) hits the road for a week of matches in Orlando for Spring Break starting Monday with a matchup with Fairfield at 9 a.m. and then Warner at 4 p.m.
