RICHMOND, Va. (April 3, 2025) … The Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) announced its Women's Indoor Track and Field "Of The Year" awards and Hampton University came away with a pair of honors.

Maurice Pierce was named CAA Women's Coach Of The Year, while freshman distance runner
Peninah Mutisya was named Rookie of the Year. This is the eighth Coach Of The Year award for Pierce and Mutisya wins the first individual "Of The Year" award in Hampton's CAA history.
Pierce, in his 26
th season with the Hampton programs, helped guide the women's team to the first CAA title in school history on February 27 as the Pirates captured the CAA Women's Indoor Track and Field Championship in Virginia Beach. Hampton had two first place finishes and three second place finishes on the final day as the Pirates tallied 110 points to edge out Elon (107.5) and Northeastern (94.5) to take the crown.
Mutisya blistered her way into the Hampton University and CAA Record Books with stellar performances in the 3000- and 5000-meter events. She set a school record in the 3k at the Penn State Open running 8:59.10, which ranked her 16
th nationally at that time. During the CAA Championships, she set CAA and CAA Championship records in the 3k (9:16.47) and 5k (15:45.87) to pull two victories. Her time in the 5k also set a Hampton University record.
Also announced on Thursday, for both teams, were the All-Conference honorees. A top three finish at the championships earned All-CAA honors.
