HAMPTON, Va. (April 5, 2025) … The Hampton University men's tennis team dropped a four-hour marathon match with visiting Howard University on Saturday afternoon falling 4-3 at Neilson-Screen Stadium.

In doubles, the Pirates pulled out the team point winning the deciding match via tiebreaker. Hampton won the first doubles match as Aryan Arora and Kevin Jorquera scored a 6-4 decision at line two over Daniel Dunac and Kaosie Nwokedi. The Bison answered with a 6-4 win at line three to set up the deciding match at the top. In that match, Yanozie Amadike and Donte Armbrister jumped out to a big lead in the tiebreaker and won 7-6 (7-3) to put Hampton up 1-0.

In singles, the Bison scored the first two wins at lines two and six to take a 2-1 lead. Hampton evened the match as Jorquera won a 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 decision at line three over Kendrick Lash. Armbrister gave Hampton a 3-2 lead with a 5-7, 7-5, 6-0 win at line one over Michael Major.

The Bison responded with three-set wins of their own at lines four and five to claim the win.

Hampton is back in action on Wednesday against Virginia State at 5 p.m.
