HAMPTON, Va. (April 9, 2025) … The Hampton University women's tennis team split a doubleheader on Wednesday as they fell 4-3 to Towson in a match that went three hours and 45 minutes. Following that match they blanked Virginia State 4-0.
 
The Pirates started their doubleheader with a Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) matchup against Towson. The Tigers took the doubles point winning at lines one and three to clinch the point.
 
In singles, after a Towson win at line six, the Pirates got victories from Diana Starodubtseva at line one (6-2, 6-0), Meiri Okuwaki at line two (6-1, 6-1) and Serena Bryan at line three (6-3, 6-4) to take a 3-2 advantage.
 
The Tigers took three-set wins at line four and five to lock up the match.
 
Hampton went right back into action and swept Virginia State 4-0 not losing a game in the match.  Staroudbtseva, Okuwaki and Melis Sakiroglu took 6-0, 6-0 singles wins. In doubles, the top two duos of Bryan and Starudubtseva along with Okuwaki and Masa Mitic also won 6-0.
 
The Pirates are back at home on Saturday hosting Richmond at 11 a.m.
