WASHINGTON, D.C. (September 20, 2025) … The 100
th meeting between Hampton University and Howard University --- the oldest FCS HBCU rivalry in the nation --- favored Howard as the Bison snapped an eight-game losing streak to the Pirates with a 34-7 victory at Washington, D.C.'s Audi Field.
Billed as the Battle of the Real HU, the Bison scored 20 first half points while shutting down Hampton's offense en route to the victory. Hampton running back
Ja'Quan Snipes, centerpiece of the Pirate offense, missed the game due to a leg injury.
It took just 77 seconds into the game for the fireworks to begin. Howard drew first blood, moving the ball 65 yards in four plays capped by a 38-yard run by Travis Kerney, who found a hole up the middle to score the game's first touchdown just 1:17 into the first quarter.
The Pirates recovered a fumble and drove inside the red zone but an interception by Howard's Kedrick Green ended the drive. The Bison drove inside the red zone to the 17-yard line as the first quarter ended.
A trick play on the first play of the second quarter accounted for Howard's second touchdown. A pass from running back Kaden Cobb to receiver KD Mosley at the 14:50 mark boosted Howard's lead to 14-0.

But the Pirates struggled the move the ball forcing a Pirate punt. A targeting call against Hampton moved the ball to the 15-yard line and on the next play, Tyriq Starks dashed into the endzone. With 9:11 before halftime, the Bison led 20-0 after the PAT went wide.
Howard had been averaging just 18.3 points and 247.0 yards per game put tallied 20 points and amassed 229 yards in the first half against the Pirates. Hampton was limited to 96 yards offense.
Hampton was able to mount a drive in its first possession of the second half. The Pirates drove to the 15-yard line but turned the ball over on downs when, on a fourth-and-five play, quarterback
Braden Davis was sacked for a 10-yard loss.
Midway through the third quarter, the Bison struck again. Kerney's eight-yard run made the score 27-0 following Matt Concord's extra point. Billy Roberson's 23-yard run just before the end of the third period upped the Howard lead to 34-0.
With
Earl Woods III at quarterback, Hampton engineered a three-play, 87-yard drive for Hampton's first points. Woods broke free for a 53-yard run with 6:56 in the game's final score to make it 34-7.
Hampton travels to North Carolina to play at Elon on Sept. 27, the fourth road contest of the 2025 campaign before returning home to face Norfolk State in the Battle of the Bay on Oct. 4.
