TOWSON, Md. (Jan. 31, 2026) … An 18-0 run by Towson (13-11, 5-6) midway through the first half propelled the Tigers to a 45-24 halftime lead enroute to an 82-50 triumph over Hampton (10-13, 4-6) before an audience of 3,615 at Towson's SECU Arena.
Hampton got off to a slow start and trailed 8-2 before the Pirates closed to 10-9 following a three-pointer by
Aidan Haskins with 14:01 to go in the half. That's as close as the Prates would get.
The Tigers increased the lead to 19-11 when controversy struck. A Hampton personal foul was upgraded to a flagrant foul. Towson sent an incorrect player to the line who made the first free throw. An upset Coach
Ivan Thomas was tagged with a technical foul after during an exchange with the officials about the mix-up. The correct player was identified and Towson converted four free throws and added a three-pointer. In a span of 1:33, Hampton was whistled for one personal foul, one flagrant foul and a technical foul.
The Tigers 18-0 run over 4:51 gave Towson a 30-11 advantage propelling the Tigers to lead 45-24 at intermission. Last in the Coastal Athletic Association in field goal percentage (42.1), Towson clicked on 62.5 percent while Hampton shot 34.6 percent from the field in the opening half.
With 9:32 to go in the second half, the lead grew to 26, 62-36, following a 10-0 run by the Tigers. Towson's largest lead was 33, 78-45, in the closing minutes of the contest.
The Pirates shot 29.3 percent from the field in the game including 25.0 percent in the second half. Towson shot 55.6 percent from the field.
Jalyke Gaines-Wyatt registered double figures with 11 points.
Xzavier Long, the 13th leading rebounder in the nation, grabbed 11 caroms in the contest. Hampton's leading scorer,
Michael Eley, did not play due to injury.
The Pirates return home to host Elon on Thursday, Feb. 5 at 7 pm at the Convocation Center. The game will highlight the effort to find a cure for cancer in the annual Coaches vs. Cancer game and fans are encouraged to wear pink and cheer on the Pirates.
