HAMPTON, Va. (Feb. 6, 2026) … Visiting Bowling Green State scored two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to take an 11-9 win over Hampton University in the opening day of the inaugural 1868 Classic on a dreary Friday afternoon.
Mother Nature came into play for the rest of the event as the impending forecast has forced the cancellation of the rest of the games scheduled.
The Falcons got on the board in the top of the first scoring on a passed ball and a sacrifice fly from Hannah Hunt to lead 2-0.
Hampton exploded for five runs in the bottom of the second inning as
Camryn Hamilton drove in Riley Bohannon and
Carmynn Bonner who each singled.
Kylee Quinn drove in Hamilton with a single and a pair of runs scored on miscues by the Falcons to put Hampton up 5-2.
BGSU answered that five-run outburst with one of their own highlighted by a two-run home run from Addie Martin as they took a 7-5 lead. The Pirates regained the lead in the bottom of the third with a three-spot with
Jayleen Reeves driving in pinch-runner
Sydney Evans and
McKenzie Rimmer-Jones to propel the hosts up 8-7.
Each team scored a run in the fifth as Katie Hutter reached on a fielder's choice to playe Delaney Davis for the guests. Hampton responded with a Rimmer-Jones single scoring Evans for a 9-8 Pirates lead.
Kendall Matthews put the guests up with a two-run double in the sixth and Hunt had a RBI single in the seventh for the insurance run.
Quinn and Bohanon were 2-for-4 each, while Hamilton was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Rimmer-Jones took the loss throwing 4.1 innings and allowing six hits.
Hampton will be back in action on Feb. 13-15 at the HBCU Collegiate Invitational in Covington, Georgia.
