FARMVILLE, Va. (Mar. 1, 2026) … The Hampton University softball team finished play on Sunday in the Bank of the James Invitational dropping a 4-1 decision to Mt. St. Mary's and a 7-3 contest against the host Longwood University.
Game one
After giving up runs in the first two innings, the Pirates got on the board with a two-out double from Victoria Salazar to score Karmyn Brown who singled.
Salazar was 2-for-3 to lead Hampton at the plate as they had seven hits in the opening contest.
Game two
Longwood scored a run in the first but the Pirates answered with a pair in the top of the third. Aitrinha Aiken opened with a walk and went to third as
Carmynn Bonner singled and took second on an error.
Camryn Hamilton ripped a shot into right-center to playe both Bonner and Aiken to tie the game at 2-2.
The Lancers pushed across three in the home half of the third with Brooke Bennett bringing the big hit with a two-run home run.
Hampton scratched a run in the top of the fourth as Bonner hit a sacrifice fly to right field to Brown who earlier walked.
Bonner was 3-for-3 to lead the Pirates at the plate against Longwood.
Hampton is back on the home field Tuesday afternoon facing Youngstown State in a doubleheader starting at noon.
