Opening Run Lifts Campbell Over Hampton

BUIES CREEK, N.C. (Mar. 5, 2026) … Senior Olivia Smith scored 11 points, dished out five assists and played beat the buzzer twice including a half-court shot but Hampton fell 69-51 at Campbell on Thursday evening.

Hampton started the game with a layup from Kiya Dorroh layup 50 seconds into the contest. The host Camels scored the next seven points, forcing four Hampton turnovers in a 4:31 span before a pair of Jasmine Felton buckets gave Campbell a 7-2 lead with 4:39 left in the opening quarter.

A jumper by Kiki McElrath broke the drought for Hampton, making it 8-4. Hampton finished the quarter 2-of-11 from the floor and a running jumper from Olivia Smith beat the quarter buzzer as Hampton trailed 17-8 after one.

The Camels found another gear in the second quarter as they hit 6-of-7 to close and used a 14-2 run over the final 5:10 to lead 42-17 at halftime. In the opening 20 minutes, Campbell shot a blistering 55.2% from the field (16-of-29),

Smith played beat the buzzer again to close the third as she swished a 3-ball from half court as the Pirates trailed 65-33 after three.

The Pirates opened the final quarter scoring the first 10 points and a pair of three-pointers from Kayla Lezama made the margin 67-50 with 70 seconds left. Smith hit 1-of-2 from the line to close the scoring for Hampton. The Pirates held Campbell to a season-low four points in the final quarter.

Joining Smith in double figures was Lezama who scored 10 points.  Gibson added nine points, while sharing leading rebounder honors with Akilah Shelton with five each.

Hampton will be at home on Saturday at 2 p.m. for Senior Day as they face William & Mary inside the Convocation Center. The Pirates will be honoring seven seniors in a pre-game ceremony starting approximately 1:30 p.m. It will also be National Women's Coaches Day as any female coach will be recognized.

Seniors recognized will be: Le'Asia Foreman, Tyra Kennedy, Kiya Dorroh, Tiani Abrams, Gibson, Smith and Aisha Dabo.
