WASHINGTON, D.C. (Mar. 7, 2026) … Hampton's 2025-26 season came to a close Saturday inside of CareFirst Arena to Towson 74-68.
Towson jumped out to a hot start Saturday evening, draining four of their first seven shots to hold a 10-4 lead at the first media timeout. The Tigers defense continued to be stout over the course of the next four minutes holding Hampton to just two points over the course of four minutes, as Towson held on to a 12-6 lead with 11:48 remaining in the first half.
Jalyke Gaines-Wyatt, Josh Ogundele, and Daniel Johnson broke that defensive spell by Towson ripping off a 6-0 run in the next three minutes to cut the Towson lead to two at 14-12. Towson responded to that run by Hampton with a 8-0 run of their own to extend the lead back to 10 at 22-12 with 3:46 remaining in the first half.
The Tigers continued to grow their lead before the half end, eventually taking a 30-17 lead into the break. Hampton was led by Johnson's six first half points, while the duo of Towson's All-Conference selections Tyler Tejada and Dylan Williamson combined for 21 of the team's 30 first half points. Xzavier Long led all players with six first half rebounds. Towson's defense was able to keep Hampton in check, as the Pirates shot just 30.8 percent in the first half from the field.
Out of the break Towson extended their lead to 20 points with a 9-2 run in the first three minutes. Michael Eley broke that spurt with a fast break layup to settle Hampton into the second half, but once more it was CAA Preseason Player of the Year Tejada with an answer.
Eley began to heat up in the second frame, scoring seven consecutive points for Hampton to cut into the Towson lead making it 44-28 with 13:59 remaining. The 7-0 run by Hampton was capped by a Etienne Strothers put back before the under 12 media timeout. Out of the timeout, Towson exploded for seven quick points to push their lead back out with 10 minutes remaining.
Trailing by 18 with 4:26 remaining, Hampton began to chip away. The Pirates outscored the Tigers by 12 points, but ultimately ran out of time falling 74-68. Hampton was led by Eley's 23 second half points, while Long hauled in a team best 10 rebounds. The Pirates conclude their season with a 13-19 record.
