Men's Track and Field Fourth Following Day One At CAA Championships

ELON, N.C. (May 15, 2026) … The Hampton University men's track and field team sits in fourth place with 23 points Friday after day one of the 2026 CAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Elon University's Jerry and Jeanne Richardson Track and Field Complex.
 
The Pirates came out of Friday's events with one individual champion as Marquis White took top honors, and earned 10 points, in the long jump with a personal best mark of 7.69m (25-2.75). Joining him in the top eight was Deimon Collins who finished fourth for five points with a leap of 7.32m (24-0.25).
 
Floyd Tucker took third in the pole vault to score six points with a mark of 4.60m (15-1). Rounding out the Pirates point scorers was Fanon Miller who took home seventh in the hammer throw with a mark of 50.32m (165-1) for two points.
 
In Friday's prelims, the Pirates had a pair make the finals in the 200 meters, 400 meters and 400 meter hurdles. Jayden Poteat took second in the prelims of both the 200 (20.94) and 400 meters (46.38) running personal best times in both races. He will be joined in the 200 by Khari Barnes who took the eighth spot in a season best 21.74. In the 400, Daniel Danner joins Poteat after running a personal best 46.59 to take fourth.
 
In the 400 hurdles, Ethan Moody ran a personal best 51.24 to earn the top spot, while Dominic Bassey finished seventh in prelims with a personal best 52.86.
 
Other qualifiers include Jaci Summers in the 100 (10.66), Yashahya Brown in the 110 hurdles (13.81) and Mohammed Al-YaFee in the 800 (1:51.40).
 
Northeastern leads the team race with 61 points, followed by William & Mary (52) and Monmouth (45) with Hampton (23) and Stony Brook (14) rounding out the top five.
